What is your fee for teaching/speaking?

My usual rate is $200-$350 per class, up to three hours, which is determined at time of booking. Some classes may be considered “intensives” and may require an increased rate. For groups booking multiple classes (such as a series of classes at a university, or an intensive weekend, etc), I am happy to discuss discounts (such as a flat rate for a weekend of 5 classes).

The above does not include travel and accommodations, and in some instances, materials provided by the local group for classes that require them. If in doubt, ask me about it!

You said “usual rate”…

There are so many different variable when it comes to booking a workshop or class – whether the course is one of my regular offerings or a custom one for your group, the people I may need to bring with me, etc. All of these things can affect the rate. For example, if I’m the only one presenting at a weekend conference and need to be teaching for 15 hours with no downtime, the fee will naturally be higher. Again, the rule is… talk to me!

What’s with the two different numbers in your “usual rate”?

Some groups are just getting started, or have very tight budget constraints. Sometimes circumstances outside of your control can mean unexpected economic hardship for your group. And sometimes, everything goes so well, you believe I was worth more, or your groups is just generally able to pay higher on the scale. So the first number is the “base” rate, and the second number is the “wow you made my day” rate. Be honest… I’ll be able to tell you’re hiding something if the conference is sold out and I only go home with the low end of the scale.

Where do you travel out of?

I live in Athabasca, AB, a small town north of Edmonton, AB… which I consider my “home area”. I am more than willing to drive if your event is under 5-6 hours away, but any further than that and I will need to fly out of Edmonton International.

How much notice do you need to book a class?

Usually 2-12 months: I have other jobs and a family that also need my time. If for some reason you need me on shorter notice than that, you can always… yep, you guessed it, talk to me!

Do you require a deposit when booking?

I usually ask for 50% of the base rate and airfare (and related travel costs) paid and with me before I consider an event “booked”.

So these rates apply for private sessions too?

Yes – the size of the group is less important to me than the preparation before hand and my time doing the teaching.

What are your rates for counselling?

Using the same style of sliding scale mentioned above, my usual rate for counselling is $75-$150 based on need and income.

What about spiritual services, like weddings or sweat lodge?

I follow the tradition that a person must never charge for spiritual work. Often times, people may feel called to give a gift of appreciation to me or provide me with funds to maintain the sweat lodge site. While these are appreciated and help me do things like pay my bills and buy toilet paper for the lodge site, no fee will ever be required for any spiritual or pastoral work.
